The Magic Question

The Magic Question in Technology Sales

I am often asked by the Account Executives I support, “Since you were a customer for so long, how would you respond to this offer?” Not to sound existential, but I typically respond with another question. There is no silver bullet question, but this one is pretty close and is deceptively simple. This “magic question” simultaneously focuses and broadens the conversation for ourselves and the customer. At a minimum, it elevates the conversation from a granular discussion of bits and bytes to one of high level business strategy. This article examines the “magic question,” its ramifications, and how the answers –… Continue Reading ›

IT Security breaches are in the news seemingly every day, at companies both large and small. (For evidence, look no further than our own monthly security breach roundups, such as this one and this one.) Data leak prevention is perhaps one of the toughest security nuts to crack. Think about all the portable devices that now hold incredible amounts of data, from a 4G USB stick that vendors give away at trade shows to an iPhone that holds 32G and a laptop with a hard drive holds more than 500G. Lots of vendors will try to sell you a point solution that purports to address the issue, maybethrough encryption or by not allowing a user to copy data to USB devices. While such tools can be valuable components of a solution, if they are not… Continue Reading ›

Every organization is different. Different histories, different goals, different perspectives on what creates competitive advantage. An MSP might not make sense for every organization, and certainly there is not a one-size-fits-all Managed Service Provider that is… Continue Reading ›

How IT can stay in front of the Consumer Device Market

Smartphone Users

This presents a serious challenge for businesses as employees purchase these devices and request that they be allowed to connect them to the corporate network.
